I got the Sigg bottle because our office went disposables-free, and I'm sensitive enough that I can taste the metal in the steel drinking bottles that were the company recommended alternative. The liner and cap do appear to be taste-neutral to me.The painted aluminum finish feels fine against the skin and has no metallic or paint taste or smell. And, as an artist, it's an extra bonus to have the coolest looking drinking bottle in the building.

Anyone considering the butterfly design might also appreciate knowing that its 'soft blue' is as bright purple in person as it looks onscreen. That's actually what I was hoping for, so no complaints from me on that account.

I couldn't find a concrete explanation anywhere about the different types of tops on Sigg bottles, so some other customers might be confused as well...

The loop/ring top is pretty self-explanatory, but if you're planning to drink directly from the bottle rather than pour from it, it might help to know that although the opening has nicely smooth rounded edges, when drinking directly from it you can feel the seam between the outer shell and liner. It's not rough or dangerous, but not everyone would be entirely comfortable with the feel.

The regular drinking top has a pop-up spout, with 2 settings; open and closed. The cover is connected by a plastic loop around the neck of the bottle, is removable and can move around when open.

The 'active sport' cap twists from a closed/locked position to a leak-proof open position. That means you need to press down on the cap to drink, but won't accidentally pour water all over yourself if you carry it around open or knock it over on your desk. The push-down nozzle takes a bit of getting used to, since you either need to press it (pretty firmly) in against your mouth when drinking or hold it down with a finger.Once I got familiar with it though, it was pretty simple to hook a forefinger over the edge of the cap when holding the bottle by the neck, so I can drink or pour one-handed while pressing it down. The cover on the active sport is hinged, but can be removed if desired. It's supposedly mud-proof, but I - fortunately - haven't had a need to test that.

Both drinking caps can be taken apart for thourough cleaning, but don't come apart easily by accident.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Can Sigg bottles be used for boiling water?
A: No. Strong heat can damage the outer coating.
Q: Can dents in the bottle damage the Sigg bottle's inner coating?
A: No, the Sigg inner coating is highly elastic. Dents cannot crack or chip the internal lining and the Sigg bottle remains perfectly usable.
Q: Can I use my Sigg bottle for carbonated drinks?
A: Yes, all Sigg bottle tops provide a 100 percent seal and will not leak. It's recommended that you fill the bottle no further than 1/2-inch below the lip. And before taking a drink, relieve the pressure inside the bottle by gently rotating the entire top.
Q: Are Sigg bottles dishwasher safe?
A: Yes, but because of the narrow mouth of the bottle, hand washing is recommended.
Q: Can a Sigg bottle be placed in the freezer
A: No, as this may cause the bottle to crack. However, the bottle can be chilled in the refrigerator.
